Happy to be hosting again!
With no idea how this summer was going to turn out, we were thrilled to welcome a few juniors from Italy, Hong Kong and France to study with us this August. Typically we host around 250 juniors in Bristol over the summer period, so, like most things this year it was a very different experience! So many people around the world are still unable to travel for so many different reasons, so it was even more special to meet the ones that did. We weren't alone: here's what Jonathan & Gail, one of our best known host families, had to say about re-opening their home to students:
"We are very happy to be hosting a junior student this month. Meet 15 years old Uby from Hong Kong!
She’s already been on school trips to Cardiff and Oxford, plus local attractions like the zoo, a graffiti walk and visiting an ice cream parlour.
We took her to the Clifton Suspension Bridge, the Giant’s Cave and on a day trip to Bath. She visited the historic Roman Baths and then saw the Crescent, the Circus and Pultney Bridge. We enjoyed burgers for lunch as a tasty treat.
At home we’ve been making handmade candles and bath melts, playing games and cooking together. We invited friends with teenage children round for her to talk to, including our neighbour’s 14 years old granddaughter. She will start learning Mandarin at school this year, so she and Uby did a language swap while playing badminton!
It's thanks to Uby that our house is buzzing again. We look forward to more junior students coming to Bristol soon."
Jonathan and Gail have been hosting for IH Bristol since 2011
