Where to go for coffee in Bristol
Did you know today is International Coffee Day? The first one was celebrated in Milan in October 2015, to promote fair trade coffee and to raise awareness for the coffee growers and lesser-known elements of the supply chain.
We take our coffee very seriously in Bristol – our city is home to many independent coffee shops so we are spoiled for choice for places to relax and enjoy a brew both close to school and around the city.
Here’s a few personal recommendations from our team to add to your list:
"It has to be Bakesmiths, on Whiteladies Road - this is a light and airy, open-plan coffee shop and eatery which I love to go to for a quick coffee (Americano), a bite to eat, or – between you and me, don’t tell anyone else - a piece of cake!
It has a wonderful Bristol independent-shop vibe to it. Give it a try if you like local, independent, good quality food and drink – I really would recommend it!"

"Noto’s Bacaro Bar in Clifton: this is a nice coffee shop on White ladies Road, the staff are very friendly and they make homemade sandwiches and pizzas with fresh products. It’s close to both IH Bristol buildings and it’s the best place for a quick lunch or aperitivo.
I love food and love eating, so I can’t help but mention another coffee shop – Bristanbul : a Turkish coffee shop and patisserie with food made following Turkish traditions and culture. This is also the best place where to order Birthday cakes which can be personalized, I highly recommend!"

"Another vote for Noto - they do the best pistachio croissant ever! I love the homely feeling and the cosiness of the bar. I also love Zankys, in Horfield - a real Italian deli where you can taste homemade food and buy authentic products from Italy."

"I recently moved to Bedminster, so my new local coffee shops are the Albatross Café and Sweven – both are amazing! Sweven’s owners have worked in coffee for many years (Jimmy was previously the head of coffee training for Clifton Coffee) and their knowledge and attention to detail is incredible.
Another favourite is Little Victories in Wapping Wharf – if you go later in the day they also have coffee cocktails on the menu, and do a great espresso martini!"

"My favourite café in Bristol is Mokoko on Wapping Wharf, because of their fantastic pastries, cakes and sandwiches, which you can watch being made in the bakery section while you’re sitting outside. I’ve also bought some great single estate coffee beans from them, which I grind and make espresso from at home. And I often pick up a loaf of their amazing sourdough. The flavour, especially from the thick, dark, crunchy crust, is umami amazing!"

"I’ve always appreciated the extra care and attention that Boston Tea Party staff put into making coffees. More than just a few sprinkles, they artfully pour the frothy liquid in such a way that elegant patterns are made in your cup and they’re different patterns every time. The other thing I love about BTP is their policy of avoiding single-use cups, which they’ve kept going all through the pandemic."
