Students of the Month

Faris is from Ha’il in Saudi Arabia, and has been learning at IH Bristol for about two months. He chose to come to Bristol to achieve his dream of seeing snow! He’ll have to wait a bit longer but we’ll keep our fingers crossed!

As a trained accountant, his ambitions for his English are to improve his job prospects because English proficiency is very important for this career.

Faris’s favourite thing about living in Bristol is his wonderful hosts, who he says have made his life in Bristol very easy. He said he likes absolutely everything about studying at IH Bristol (so much that he hasn’t missed a single lesson!) and that his favourite aspect is his afternoon classes because they are so fun.

We chose Faris as Student of the Month because of his proactive attitude to learning, because of the excellent progress he has made while he has been here, and because of how encouraging he is of the other students, both in lessons and in the school community.  He always has something interesting to contribute in lessons and we value his insights. Well done Faris!

Lenka is from Prague in the Czech Republic and is visiting the UK for the first time. After finishing her job and embarking on some ‘me time’ she decided that learning English was the best option to fill it.

In Prague, she encounters many tourists asking for directions, so learning English makes it easier to answer questions and talk to people. Lenka also feels that learning English is necessary for her continuing education.

Lenka chose Bristol after watching videos which showed the city in a positive light. When she arrived she was struck by the nice street and area in which she lived, and was surprised by how friendly people are in the city.

At the school, Lenka likes the fact that her classmates represent many different nationalities, making it very interesting to talk and learn about different cultures, foods and backgrounds. The size of the school means that everyone knows everyone, which makes it very friendly and means nobody feels lonely here.

The teachers nominated Lenka as the student of the month because of her consistent effort in school, always working hard and taking advantage of our study room to get extra practice. Lenka is a positive addition to the school with a wonderful attitude to learning. Well done!
