Pete Gibson
I have worked at IH Bristol as a teacher, teacher trainer and manager since 1998 and I manage the school to ensure all our students have the best possible experience. Before International House Bristol, I was an English teacher in secondary schools in Greece, which was a great opportunity to experience Greek culture and to learn the language! As a child, I also lived for several years in the Middle East, including Jordan, Yemen, and Oman (Salalah).
My main responsibility is the day-to-day organisation of all the school's programmes. I also enjoy finding new ways to help students learn more effectively. For example, I encourage our teachers to integrate pronunciation into lessons in different ways. I also believe that learning English phrases - 'chunks' of language, not just single words - is really important for successful learning.
Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my family, trying to keep up with my teenage children (one boy, one girl). When I do have free time, I enjoy playing the guitar and piano - especially blues, jazz and improvising. I also play squash with a group of friends every Monday evening, and am part of a local community choir; we perform twice a year in the city!
Bristol is my home town, so I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do living here! I look forward to welcoming you to the city and to our school!
