Each course has a 10-week syllabus (you can choose to take all 10 weeks, or a smaller number for example 5 weeks). Our syllabus is very flexible and helps us teach you according to your needs. In each 10-week course, we cover a range of important areas. Here is a list of the areas and some examples of the things we often do in each area:
Language area Examples
topics: life in the UK, technology, health, going out, music, personality
grammar: tenses and verb structures, the grammar of phrases, modal verbs (like 'can'and 'should'), small grammar words (like 'a' and 'the'), conditionals ('if' sentences)
vocabulary: collocations (words which naturally go together), phrases (short groups of words we usually use together), idioms (expressions which are difficult to guess the meaning of), phrasal verbs (look something up, help somebody out) and word beginnings and endings (like 'un- and -ful )
pronunciation: word stress, difficult sounds, natural pronunciation and the sounds of English to help your listening
the four skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening, to improve your communication skills outside the classroom
effective communication: formal/informal language and politeness, linking sentences together to form texts
functional language: agreeing/disagreeing, giving advice, giving opinions, suggesting
